If you want to get into Miami get involved in as many extracurricular clubs in high school as you can and get decent grades. The standards are getting lower and lower to get in so you'll probably stand a good chance of getting in, unless you are stupid.

I had a 3.8 GPA and a 30 ACT score. I did two varsity sports in high school and had very little extra curricular outside of sports and very little volunteer hours. I had great letters of recommendation. I was also accepted to the honors program.

Keep your grades up throughout your senior year and get involved. They like to see that you were involved all four years and in the same things, not a chronic club joiner.

Honestly, all you have to do is join a club or sport in high school and get average grades. Miami got this reputation of being a "public ivy" in the '80s (that's right, over 20 years ago)and its discouraged people from applying. But you wouldn't believe how many idiots go to school here. I read online Miami accepts over 70% of its applicants, so you could even get a few C's (maybe even a D) and get in. Not so sure about test scores though, but most of the students here are about average.
